Professor Vasu Reddy is a chief research specialist in the Gender and Development cross-cutting unit. He holds an MA in comparative literature from the University of the Witwatersrand, and obtained a PhD in gender studies from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in April 2005. Before joining the HSRC in July 2006, he was the head of Gender Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Howard College Campus). He has also worked in the area of service delivery in the non-governmental sector. His areas of research interest include interdisciplinary studies on the discursive histories of sexualities and identities, social and cultural aspects of HIV/AIDS and its representations, critical gender (and legal) studies, comparative studies, African feminism(s) and service provision in a developmental context. Professor Reddy's publication record spans the authoring and co-authoring of more than 30 conference and journal/book articles. His most recent work, published in the journal Agenda, investigated the impact of decriminalisation on same-sex equality in the South African context. |
